By Peter Kilvert.
World renowned environmentalist and human health advocate Dr Paul Connett, has called for a MORATORIUM on waste incineration. “When communities around the world are targeted by large corporations to facilitate waste incineration, they are promised that the facilities are safe and that they produce clean energy. The truth is that these operations are very harmful to human health and do not represent a waste management solution”.
Dr Connett, who is professor of Chemistry at St Lawrence University in Canada, and who spoke against the proposed Northwich Incinerator last year, has recently posted You Tube videos of the dangers of dioxins produced by incinerators and biomass plants.
He says, “dioxins get into the body’s fatty tissue and because they are not water-soluble they stay there, interfering with cell structure. Women can get rid of dioxins when they are pregnant because these toxins are transferred to the foetus and later to the new born baby in her breast milk”.
Chairman of the Breathe Clean Air Group, Pete Kilvert said, “the proposed Barton Renewable Energy Plant will produce dioxins because the burning process will not be hot enough. These dioxins will not be filtered out and go up the chimney stack to pollute our environment. These You Tube videos are a must-see for people who have doubts about the controversial biomass plant.”
