By Jennifer Dixgood-Jones Earlier this evening at Higher Irlam Social Club there was a meeting about Council plans to build a new industrial estate on 100 acres of greenbelt land at Barton Moss.
The proposal to concrete over Barton Moss is contained within Salford City Council's Draft Core Strategy document which is out for public consultation until 15th January 2010.
A petition opposing the Council plans has already received over 1,000 signatures.
The meeting was well attended by residents and local politicians, including Councillors Deas, Houlton, Mann, Owen, ex-councillor Roger Jones and Independent prospective parliamentary candidate for Salford and Eccles Richard Carvath.
I spoke briefly to Richard Carvath after the meeting. He said, "I'm opposed to the current proposals to build on Barton Moss, as are Lib Dem PPC for Salford and Eccles Norman Owen and Conservative PPC for Worsley and Eccles South Iain Lindley."
"If these proposals went ahead they would be disastrous to the environment and would worsen traffic congestion and pollution levels. I'm dubious about the potential of such a development as a means to generate a significant number of skilled jobs for Salfordians and I find it inexcusable that greenbelt land is even being considered for concreting over when there is an abundance of brownfield land throughout the City of Salford just waiting to be redeveloped."
"I smell a rat behind these proposals, and the name of that rat is Peel Holdings. I suspect that Peel is after more land for Port Salford and that Peel will do everything it possibly can to get hold of Barton Moss agricultural land for industrial development."
"Residents can successfully fight these proposals but they must be highly organised and professional, committed to the cause when the going gets tough and they should be putting forward alternative proposals."
Have your say on the Draft Core Strategy proposals for Barton Moss.

You get the impression that Peel holding will stop at nothing untill the whole of the land beside the ship canal is under concrete , you only have to look how much land has gone to the Traffic Centre , all the small farms that were on the old barton road and of course the the field that the Trafford centre was built on the roads around there are a nightmare . As for the Moss I had relatives that farmed on there many years ago and I Have fond memories of staying with them at weekends . It would be a shame if was to go under concrete , and would make a mockery of the so called climate change debate , |

Otis must be Jennifer's husband, huh? He's not tweeted anything but it's funny he seems to be in America off the people following him. |

I should have put a comma after "When she phones". Hmmn. Not to worry. |
Comment by Guest 12th January 2010
When she phones could you ask her how come she has such an unusual surname? There are no Dixgoods in the phone book and according to google, the only other Dixgood with an internet presence - IN THE WHOLE WORLD - is an "Otis Dixgood" who uses twitter. |

If she doesn't exist as most regular readers believe is highly likely then it's plain that Richard Carvath is taking the p**s out of the Editorial team the website and all its readers and he should be banned and all mention of him banned too. He is remorseless is his quest for any publicity at all and it's plain he's getting worse. |

How interesting - who is this Jennifer Dixgood Jones? She materialises out of thin air and as if by magic, she has her own blog, and the first entry is.... an interview with Richard Carvath.
Is there any actual evidence for the existence of this woman? I hope so, for the sake of this website's credibility.

Hi, just to wish you all the best in what will certainly be an uphill struggle. The generation of money is all that councils are bothered about, so short sighted. Good Luck!

An alliterative female name with "Dick's good" in the middle. Hmmmn. This is a little dubious. |
Comment by Guest 3rd January 2010
In fact "Dixgood" doesn't appear to be a real surname. Google's only coming up with nine hits. However, it does say "Dick's good". Dick... Dickie? |

I know how fond he is of using alliterative female names and JDJ is kind of alliterative. At least it's not a porn star's name this time. Apologies Jennifer if you're a real person. |

I've just googled "Jennifer Dixgood-Jones" and the only hit is right here. I hope this isn't another sock-puppet account for a certain PPC. |

Peel Holdings? Say no more. In the meantime, here's to hoping that plenty of residents will join in to protect this precious piece of green space. No-one else will, least of of Councils whose chief obsession is raising revenue by whatever means. It's likely to get worse, up and down the country: the revenue raising obsession and the land-grab to do it by. Lots of good wishes to everyone who cares for Barton Moss! |
