by Steve Middleton I wouldn’t dream of accusing Salford Online of this, since they have more sense and, by & large, run a very professional site that is a constant source of good information valuable to most Salfordians. However I, have been the recent victim of “cyber plagiarism” by one particular ‘cut and paste blogger’ who not only denies me the right to reply/comment on the very site where he has republished my work, but also refuses to positively identify himself (only using the pseudonym ‘Mole45’).
Posting material without the original writer’s permission or without giving credit where it is due to its author(s), could get you into serious trouble and possibly even sued. Copyright laws are complicated and breaking them is a serious offense.
I think what irks me about Mole45 in particular is that, rather than copying an entire piece verbatim (and then failing to credit the original author) which is bad enough, he has decided to select small sections of the article in question he is interested in and then add his own comment immediately after. This makes it look like he has written the item himself, or far worse, alter the meaning or intent of the original article to align with his own political agenda.
Constructive criticism about my written views I can take – after all, I do not expect everyone to share the same opinions as me, however, ripping off my articles and passing them off as your own or pasting one line out of a whole blog post of mine and then cynically changing the meaning of my work to fit your own point of view is not on. Shame on you, Mr Mole45.
In a direct appeal to Mole45, I ask him this: Please stop stealing my work. Your ‘cut and paste blogging’ is neither original nor helpful. You would need my permission to re-produce my work on your blog, and you have not asked for it (nor do you have it).

Nowhere on Mole45's blog does he POSITIVELY IDENTIFY himself. Not in his "about" page nor anywhere else does he print a message saying "written by Joe O'Neill". Perhaps he thinks it offers him some kind of deniability... |

I don't know how you can say Mole45 refuses to positively identify himself. Surely anyone who knows anything about local council stuff knows it's Joe O'Neill. When I'd just moved to the area two years ago I only had to do a quick google to find out it was Joe. |

The last 'Comment by Guest' refers to my blog post "Which bit to Grit?" which did not say "Don't grit the roads?" it just questioned if the limited amount of grit we have available to us was being used effectively and efficiently enough by Salford Council.
I made a suggestion that busy roads don't necessarily need to be gritted, since the heavy traffic (buses, trucks) would keep the road clear anyway. This would leave more grit free to clear the treacherous routes that have not been clear of snow and ice for a week.
Also, to correct "Guest" below, I did not "steal someones id to post on blogs" - I will always sign everything I ever write with my name at the end. I have never written anything anonymously, nor would I.
Of course, it would be nice to respond to untruths on Mole45's blog, but he will not allow me to comment on anything he writes about me there.
The act of a truly desperate man.
The previous "Comment by Guest" was so obviously Mole45 - allow me my right of reply, what are you afraid of? |

This from the man who steals someones id to post on blogs? but do you not think it's better that you get some one to view your ideas? Dont grit the roads? Perhaps we should ask all the people in Langworthy what they have to say, i am sure the Independent candidate in may will be asking the question.I think you should stick to following your lord and master |

Bit rich of Steve Middleton - the man who goes around the internet posting using other people's names. Hypocrite. |

You're right I've noticed he's done the same with this site too. |
