DIY theatre company is delighted to announce receipt of a BIG Lottery Award of over £100,000 !!!
DIY is a Salford based theatre company led by a group of learning disabled performers first established in 1994.

We produce quality, entertaining and fun performances which are based upon our own ideas and experiences. We try to make people think, and use lots of different art forms to:
• Challenge stereotypes
• Promote inclusion
• Celebrate creativity

Leading it…Our Way is DIY’s latest ambitious education and outreach initiative. It runs from 2011 to 2013 and is funded by a BIG Lottery Grant of £101, 896.00

Leading it...Our Way will provide opportunities for people with learning difficulties to develop leadership and creative skills , raise aspirations and gain accreditation through their achievements using Bronze and Silver Arts Award as a framework.

The Bronze Arts Award led by DIY company members will allow young people to:
• Take part in an arts activity, anything from dance to creative writing to beat boxing.
• Go to an arts event of their choice
• Find their arts hero or heroine, research their story, and discover how they got to where they are today
• Share skills by helping to run a workshop or by giving a demonstration to others.
The Silver award builds upon the skills developed in Bronze.

Quote from Jenny Harris:

As the newly appointed Education and Outreach Officer, I am hugely excited that DIY Theatre Company has this opportunity to develop our work with young people. We are now able to build upon previous projects and really explore the notion of leadership in its many different forms. Our actors in the outreach group have huge amounts of energy and enthusiasm about working with new groups of young people and taking them on a journey. The Big Lottery grant will enable us to work in a detailed way and embed new skills into the core of the company.

Quote from company member: Robert Chadwick:

I get great satisfaction from the young people we work with. It’s not about me, it’s about them and if they are enjoying themselves then it’s a job well done.
