Tories' lead drops to five points - latest
by News Team
A YouGov poll for the Sunday Times show that David Cameron's lead over Gordon Brown has dropped to five points. In early 2007 the Guardian/ICM put Brown a full 13 points behind David Cameron's Tories. By summer of 2009 YouGov stated that such a lead was halved to around 7 points. The latest figures (available on the YouGov website) show that if there was a general election tomorrow, 38% of those surveyed would vote Conservative, 33% would vote Labour, with the Lib Dems on 16% and all other parties coming in combined at 12%. In the North of the country, voters' intentions look like this: 34% Tory, 44% Labour, 15% Lib Dem and 7% other. In the Telegraph, however, Boris Johnson directed readers to Betfair, which the London mayor says holds more store for him. Betfair - along with other betting websites like bet365.com and Ladbrokes.com are offering significant sections of their site over to political betting. The Conservative Party has this week launched an app for the iPhone, to keep supporters informed of "the latest news from the campaign trail". Perhaps an Obama-style use of new media, social networking and new technologies is in the offing for David Cameron's Tories.
