Law Society at Salford City College
Salford City College, Eccles Centre played host to a selection of professional barristers and solicitors at the launch of the Salford Aimhigher Law Society for 2010.

Students from the college and local school students from Year 10 and 11 attended the event, which included lectures and workshops from practising lawyers and university lecturers.

A keynote speech was delivered by Professor Alcock, Head of the Salford University Law School, in which he discussed the difference in roles of solicitors and barristers and current and future opportunities available to those thinking of following a career in the profession. This was followed up with a range of workshops from representatives of DWF Solicitors, university and careers advice agencies and also Eccles College ex-student Chris Gutteridge.

After achieving straight-A’s in his A-Levels at the college, Chris went on to Durham University to gain a first-class degree and is now a successful barrister. Chris inspired the visiting students with a talk on life as a barrister and with some very encouraging words for students who wish to follow in his footsteps.

Representatives from universities were also on hand to give advice on studying law in higher education and students were very grateful to gain such in-depth knowledge on what is a very competitive industry.
