Best of northern design comes to Manchester via Salford
Universities from across the north have teamed up with design and communications agencies to form the first annual ‘Designers Northern Alliance’ event. The event at Manchester’s Triangle on 24 and 25 June is being organised by the University of Salford, University of Chester, Manchester Metropolitan University, University of Central Lancashire, Liverpool John Moores University, Community University of North Wales, Huddersfield University and a number of agencies from across the region. The event will showcase graduate advertising, illustration, digital media and graphic design talent from the region’s universities. It will also bring together representatives from industry and academia to develop links into work and share best practice. Jo Greenhalgh of the School of Art & Design said: “The event will include an exhibition of the cream of graduate talent from northern English universities and we will be hosting a series of keynote lectures, roundtable discussions, portfolio surgeries and a Q&A forum. The agencies attending will be the first to meet the best graduates the region has to offer.” Over 40 high profile members of the design and creative industry have signed up for portfolio workshops and talks. Speakers include Robert Urquhart, Warren Drum of GyroHSR, Tim Sharp of Uniform, Si Scott, John Landor of Code Computer Love and Chris Arnold of Creative Orchestra. Other contributors include Bollandlowe, HyperIsland, KMP, Tickle, Cheetham Bell JWT, Uniform, Love Creative, Young, Seveer Vivid, Raw and Heart & Soul. Sponsors include Tayburn, GyrosHSR, Leftfield, The Drum, Business Link Northwest, Shape and The Triangle.
