Your memories of Eccles
by Tom Rodgers
How do you remember the town you grew up in? Eccles pupils at Wentworth High will be looking at the local history of their town in a new project, and they need you. This year's Year 7s will be interviewing local people about their school life, leisure time and family life to compare it to their own experiences. When you got home from school, what did you do? With "TV/PS3/Xbox/Facebook" not an option, how did you amuse yourselves? How will your life differ from that of your children? And will anyone beyond your generation remember what Eccles used to be like? If you're in your 40s or 50s, and would like to help the children complete their history project, call in to the school on 30 September/1 October to be interviewed. Six Year 7 classes would like to get your thoughts on tape - they'll record your memories onto digital voice recorders and make you a part of their history work for the next school year. They're asking that you bring in an object with you - something that you've owned for a long time. it could be a poster, or a teapot, or an instrument, anything that reminds you of the town you grew up in. If you'd like to help out these schoolchildren email the acting head of history for Wentworth, Michael Woulfe: michael.woulfe@salford.gov.uk or call him on 0161 789 4565.
