Warning Over Teacher 'famine'

There could be a severe teacher shortage because so few students are signing up for training, a think-tank has warned.

According to the Policy Exchange there are 10 per cent fewer applicants for teacher training than last year, which could result in a "famine" of teachers.

Meanwhile, the director of a government-backed programme to help children with
reading and writing has said that those who were two years behind their classmates could catch up with 30 hours of specialist training.
