The head of Reel North says Joe O Byrne's film will be "known as the launchpad for more careers than any other film in the city's history."

And it's playing tonight at the Manchester Greenroom on Whitworth Street.

We, you may remember, reviewed Lookin for Lucky after it debuted at the Salford film festival in November:

"Debuting at the fifth Salford Film Festival last night was a rapturously received first film Lookin' for Lucky. At a packed Vue cinema on the Lowry Outlet Mall, a full house watched Chris Leonard and Joe O'Byrne's comedy drama, set on the fictional north-west estate of Paradise Heights.

The film opens with a lost dog - the Lucky of the title - and a double glazing salesman. Mundane enough, you may think. But local hard man/loan shark Moses needs his money back tonight, or he's in serious trouble. And there's his artistic brother Chalkie, lost in his own world, to look out for. Sheree's trying to get out of Paradise Heights altogether, but she can only get away if Moses doesn't find out she's leaving. Kieran and Lisa need money or they're out on the streets. Landlord, bailiffs they all need to be paid. So what will they do? Rob a post office? Put Lisa on the game?

At the premiere last night, writer Joe O'Byrne said:
'When we landed in the locations where we shot the film, Halliwell in Bolton and Charlestown in Salford, we were expecting trouble, or the equipment to get nicked, but the reception we got from local people was fantastic, and some of them actually ended up with speaking parts in the film.

"What I tried to do is tell a community story," he said, "and I'm very proud of what we've achieved."

Says Paul Barron, "In 20 years time, it will be regarded as one of the most important feature-length films ever to come out of Manchester."

Tickets are £5/£4 concessions. Starting at 7.30pm.
