Cicus Cirkor - reviewed by our theatre critic Paul Lemon
Well it had to happen. After giving rave reviews to the last five or more shows the run of good luck had to run out at some point. It ended with tonights offering at the Lowry Lyric Theatre. The show was called Circus Cirkor. The second act will be starting around now. As it is I could not stand another minute so I am here back at the flat typing up this review. The press release boded well for the show. "Circus Cirkor is a must see" raved the Evening Standard. "It Breezes along on a wave of infection energy" said the Metro. For me it was like a third rate Cirque du Soleil meets The League of Gentleman only not as funny. There were undoubtedly strong circus skills on show. One act involved some amazing twirls inside a man sized hoop of steel. Another act involved a thirty foot pole and lots of contortions around and about it. However the storyline supposedly connecting everything was mostly incomprehensible. It seemed to involve a woman who had lost her heart. At one point there was a video projection of blood cells swooping down an artery I think while some twits bounced around in a large cloth blood cell on stage. It was quite insane and a little disturbing at times When we left a little girl was ushered out weeping openly with her grandparents. They headed straight for the car park just like us. Sorry but Circus Cirkor was a dud. I would not recommend it as being suitable for children at all, for any age group. Nor would I recommend it as being suitable for adults either for that matter. So thats a good 2 out of 10 from me. Still it might be just me. If you fancy giving it a whirl it finishes its run Wed evening 1st September. Call the Lowry box office on 0843 208 6010. Children half price. Due to problems with spam only SalfordOnline members can now leave comments.
