by Tom Rodgers
Salford will see another riot on Saturday - but this time in the name of art. Up to 40 extras aged 18-30 are needed for the shoot in Broughton on Saturday.
Director Jason Wingard - who recently won the Virgin Media Shorts 2011 for his short film 2.20 - is filming a music video for Manchester indie band Darktown Jubilee and needs local actors to get involved.
With the August riots still fresh in the mind of many Salfordians, we asked producer Phil Meacham why the topic was being used for the film.
"It's a hard-hitting social issue that's never really been used in a music video before.
"We wanted to look at how the Salford and Manchester community has been affected by the riots. We want to portray it in a negative light, which is what is has been for most locals."
Salford actor Steve Evets, who found fame in the 2009 Mike Leigh film Looking for Eric, stars as the lead.
"We got in touch with Steve's agent and talked through our ideas for the shoot," says Phil.
"We know he only works on projects he's interested in so it's a massive compliment that he's come on board."
Actors will be used in the background, causing a nuisance and "selling the effect of a riot". You will be seen in long shots and in close-up. Expenses will be paid.
You will need to wear clothing similar to the disturbances of last year. Tracksuit bottoms, baseball caps, scarfs, etc.
Filming takes place from 9am to 12noon on Saturday 28th January.

Ok Grumpy, I'll give you that one. Must admit I hadn't even noticed there was a sports section. Which partly proves my point... kids doing good stuff doesn't hit the headlines. |

So sad that the media, especially photographers, seem to like to publicise bad news and social unrest. Every weekend throughout the North West there are hundreds of youngsters taking part in football, rugby, swimming, dancing, and many other activities. Why not show some of these brilliant kids at their commendable activities? Rather than a group of adults, (18-30 year olds), acting like brainless morons. |

I'm only guessing, but I bet none of you know what the song is about? It's about the breakdown of society, what could illustrate that better than a depiction of the mindless rioting that took place in our fair city? Neither the song, nor the video glamourizes that sad event, but like it or not it DID take place. Music reaches the young, and if this song creates a discussion amongst them about what took place, then that can only be a good thing, surely? |

Sorry grumpy, I can't agree with giving such ill-conceived projects the oxygen of publicity. Ok, so now it's been brought to your attention, what are you going to do about it? |

If Salfordonline hadn't reported the event we probably wouldn't know it was going on and we should know about this sort of thing, if you don't like it complain to your councillor, in other words Ex Seadog and others - don't shoot the messenger. I say well done Salfordonline for bringing this to our attention. |

Sorry Ed. but your promotion of this pointless glorification of something all decent Salfordians are ashamed of, and would rather forget, is disappointing. Any chance of you deleting it? |

Surely our crackpot council must have had to give permission for this to filmed? As everyone else has said, really poor taste and appalling judgement! |

This is in extremely poor taste, and should be stopped immediately!! |

Well said salfordjc, yet again glamourising something that a lot of Salford people still feel ashamed about, does Jason Wingard live in Salford or indeed the unheard of Darktown Jubilee, serves you lot right if the local kids have all your gear away and torch your car, now that would be ironic. |

hardly improving the image of Salford , or the thousands of DECENT people who live here.....why dont they pay a copyright fee and use the services of an archive library for the shots and edit them in. |
