Teen rescued from mudbank

An 18 year old man was saved from the River Irwell on Sunday, GM Fire reports.

The crew from Salford who attending the inital call were forced to ask for help from called in the Specialist Water division from Eccles.

It was around 6.25am on Sunday 31st July when the Eccles team arrived with an inshore rescue inflatable boat to reach the man.

He had become stuck on a mudbank behind the Lowry Hotel, off Chapel Street, between the Trinity/Spinningfields areas.

He was said to be suffering from minor head injuries and was taken by ambulance to Salford Royal hospital.

The injuries were not thought to be life-threatening.
