Fire Service Award for long serving members
Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service recently honoured 14 of its uniformed officers with the Fire Service Long Service and Good Conduct Medals.

The Queen awards the medal to those members of the Brigade who have completed 20 years ‘Exemplary Fire Service’.


The medals were presented by

Mr Christian Wewer, High Sheriff of Greater Manchester.

Chairman of the Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Authority

WATCH COMMANDER ANDREW MCKENZIE

Watch Commander Andrew McKenzie joined Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service in May 1989.
After the successful completion of his recruit training course Andrew was posted to Farnworth fire station where he served until being promoted to Crew Commander at Blackley in August 1998. A transfer to Agecroft in April 2000 was followed by a further promotion to Watch Commander at Moss Side in February 2001. In January 2003 he transferred back to Agecroft before a further transfer in November 2003 to Salford borough fire safety. In November 2006 he was promoted once again within the Salford borough fire safety.

WATCH COMMANDER JOHN CARTWRIGHT


Watch Commander John Cartwright joined Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service in May 1989 and following the successful completion of his basic training course john was posted to Broughton fire station.
In August 2001 John was promoted to Crew Commander and transferred to fire service headquarters as the fire cadet liaison officer before a further transfer to Agecroft fire station in July 2002. John’s next promotion to Watch Commander came in December 2007 as he transferred back to fire service headquarters as cadet liaison officer. John continues to serve in the children and young people department at fire service headquarters.
