FIRE AND RESCUE SERVICE REPORTS ‘BUSINESS AS USUAL….’

Despite the extraordinary winter weather which has been affecting the county Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service are maintaining the excellent service the public have come to expect.

Despite the challenging travelling conditions staff have made their way into work and all emergency vehicles remain available – and surprisingly the service has reported slightly lower levels of calls to help the public*.

However the service are also reinforcing the message asking the public to maintain their vigilance , as the road conditions have led to a slight increase in the time to attend emergency incidents**.

County Fire Officer Steve McGuirk said, “Despite the worst effects of the weather we have maintained our emergency response capability, attending incidents in an average of just over nine minutes during the worst of the recent weather.

However we don’t want people to forget their fire safety precautions, and help protect themselves by following some simple tips”.

· Ensure you have smoke alarms fitted in your home – and check they are working!

· Make sure everyone in your home knows what to do in an emergency – make an escape plan.

· In the event of a fire – Get out, Call 999 and Stay out!
