Fire in Lower Broughton Salford
At 21.56pm on the 10th July, firefighters from Broughton, Salford and Agrecroft fire stations were called to a fire in a ground floor flat at Lower Broughton Road, Manchester. When the fire crews arrived at the scene they were confronted by a rapidly developing fire in the bedroom of the ground floor flat. Fire fighters wearing Breathing Apparatus rescued a man who was lying on the floor in the lounge who was suffering from smoke inhalation. However, due to the intensity of the fire, smoke filled the communal hall and stairwells and a pregnant woman and her 4 year old daughter had to be led to safety by fire crews from a first floor flat. The fire was quickly brought under control by firefighters using 2 hose reel jets and high pressure fans, however the ground floor flat suffered severe fire damage to the bedroom. A fire fighter sustained back injuries whilst rescuing the male occupant of the ground floor flat and had to retire off duty. All three casualties were given oxygen therapy at the scene and taken to hospital for further treatment. Due to the suspicious circumstances surrounding the cause of the fire a multi agency investigation has been instigated between the fire service and the police. Source: Greater Manchester Fire.
