Recruitment of emergency fire crew
Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service is looking for people to become Emergency Fire Crew (EFC) and Emergency Fire (EF) Control operators to help keep local people safe in the event of a strike.

The Service will begin recruitment today (Wednesday, October 19) to enable those selected to be trained in basic fire fighting techniques or control operations, ahead of the national Day of Action planned for 30 November.

This is happening despite uncertainty around who exactly will be taking part in the industrial action and whether this will include people who are members of the Fire Brigades Union (FBU). However, Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Authority is required, by law, to make plans to keep people as safe as possible, and cannot wait any longer if we are to recruit and train people in time for 30 November.

If, at a later stage, a decision is reached by the FBU not to take industrial action or to take action which falls short of a strike, we will review our position and may not commence the training of the EFC and EF Control recruits.

If you are interested in becoming a member of our Emergency Fire Crew or Emergency Fire Control please see link below here for details of how to apply.
