Eccles crew helped save horse from bog
Fire Crews battled for over an hour to successfully rescue a horse trapped in a bog at a farm in Urmston. The horse had slipped down a muddy embankment into the bog following continuous heavy rain. Following a call at 5.15pm, firefighters from Stretford and Eccles Fire Stations arrived on the scene at Newcross Farm, Urmston, to find the horse firmly stuck in the mud-filled trench. Paul Smitham, Station Manager at Eccles Fire Station, said: "The horse had slipped down a muddy bank that had been churned up during the bad weather and was in a very distressed state. "Working together, we used special animal rescue gear - including boards and ropes - and sheer muscle power to remove the horse from the bog, lifting it over steep banking onto firmer ground. "Having done this, the horse righted itself and trotted off which was quite gratifying for the crews to see." Due to problems with spam only SalfordOnline members can now leave comments.
