Broughton fire crew attend pan fire
A woman had a lucky escape after a pan of food was left unattended and caught fire.
Firefighters were called to Hazelbottom Road in Blackley at around 2.20pm after the occupier found the pan on fire in the kitchen. The 35-year-old first knew there was a problem when she heard the smoke alarm. She managed to put the fire out herself with a bucket of water but in the process of doing so, she inhaled smoke. Fire crews from Manchester Central and Broughton attended the scene and gave the woman oxygen. She was taken to North Manchester General Hospital by ambulance. Fire safety message: * 60 per cent of house fires start in the kitchen * Remember any type of pan can catch fire - this includes a wok, a grill or a frying pan * Never leave cooking unattended, not even for a minute.
