Chief Fire Officer urges people to take extra care during bonfire period.

With the bonfire season continuing into the weekend, Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service is urging people to take extra care during this weekends activities.

Bonfire night resulted in the Service receiving 612 emergency calls which resulted in 340 incidents*

This is a noticeable reduction in the number of emergency calls received in comparison with 2008 but alarmingly a number of serious injuries resulting from bonfire and firework injuries still occurred. These included a number of people suffering burns from firework injuries with two people being burned as a result of falling onto bonfires.

Chief Fire Officer Steve McGuirk said “We are aware that many people will be planning to hold events over the weekend and we would urge people to attend an organised display, sadly we continue to attend incidents where people are injured, We are asking people to follow our advice and have a safe and happy bonfire
