New community rooms available in Salford
Community groups across Salford are joining forces with the fire service in a bid to improve the lives of local people by holding activities and meetings in stations – and it’s already paying off. Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service has welcomed local people to use the community rooms in fire stations for everything from fitness classes to dance groups and health days. In Salford the fire stations have been used by a number of groups such as the youth groups Beavers and Brownies making the most of Salford’s rooms and Stretford Fire Station also being used by the Stroke Association. Chairman of Greater Manchester Fire Authority, Councillor Paul Shannon said: "Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service has fire stations across the area, right in the heart of the communities we serve. Our community rooms are designed to be just that – providing space for local people who need to get together. It’s great for them and also for us, as we get the chance to meet people and make sure they understand the importance of fire safety. We often use these opportunities to talk about home fire risk assessment and other parts of our work that save lives.” Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service has community rooms available in all boroughs. If you are a member of a community group and are interested in using one of the rooms please visit the link below for contact details.
