Swinton youths to get on their bikes
A Police Community Support Officer from Salford North Neighbourhood Policing Team has helped young people in Swinton get on their bike as part of a project. PCSO Tracey Tynan has donated bicycles in need of repair to teenagers from Dean’s Activity Centre where they are taught how to fix the bikes to a standard where they can be safely ridden. Once they have been repaired, the teenagers have been allowed to keep them as well as receiving a helmet, lights and pump. The bikes were originally seized and kept at Swinton Police Station. If no one comes forward and collects the cycles after 28 days, they can be donated to charity. We are continuing to tackle burglary, vehicle crime and anti-social behaviour in the area. The temperature is rising and the nights are getting lighter so you may feel more inclined to leave doors and windows open. However, this will act as an open invitation to burglars to steal your property. Please keep doors and windows shut and locked even when you are in - One in three burglaries are down to thieves getting in through open doors and windows. Keep gadgets and valuables out of sight and away from windows. Use lights, radios and timer switches, this will make your home look occupied and if you have an alarm, please use it. To report a crime call 0161 872 5050. If it is an emergency, where there is a threat to life or crime in progress, please call 999. By removing valuables from vehicles, you can also reduce the chances of having it broken into. Leaving items such as laptops or mobile phones in full view is means it is likely they will disappear by the time you get back to your car. There are a number of Police And Communities Together (PACT) meetings and surgeries taking place across the neighbourhood. These are an ideal way to meet your local officer and discuss issues that may be affecting you and your family. Dates and details are on the left hand side of the screen. Police in Salford are continuing to work towards delivering the Policing Pledge, giving people a clear minimum standard of service they can expect from their local police. We will be asking for input from members of the public to influence the policing of neighbourhoods, to ensure our service is focused on the needs of local communities, addressing the issues that matter most to people in Salford.
