Police warning as Lead stolen from Eccles roofs
Salford police are asking residents to be extra vigilant after a spate of lead thefts over the weekend. Up to 6 houses had lead stolen from the roof over the weekend. The offenders will have had to climb up to a considerable height to reach the lead and must have used a vehicle to take it away. If you see anyone acting suspiciously, or up an a roof where they clearly shouldn't be, then please ring the police immediately using 999. Lead can be weighed in for scrap value at scrap yards - so we also need to know who is accepting the lead. If you know anything at all please ring the independant charity, Crimestoppers, on 0800 555 111. You can protect your roof by replacing the flashing with a lead free alternative or painting the lead with anti-climb paint. However please bear in mind that when using a such a deterrent it must be at height of over 2 meters and warning signs must be displayed.
