Young people get on their bikes
A Police Community Support Officer from Greater Manchester Police’s Salford Division has helped young people in Swinton get on their bike as part of a project.

PCSO Tracey Tynan has donated bicycles in need of repair to teenagers from Dean’s Activity Centre where they are taught how to fix the bikes to a standard where they can be safely ridden. Once they have been repaired, the teenagers have been allowed to keep them as well as receiving a helmet, lights and pump.

The bikes were originally seized and kept at Swinton Police Station. If no one comes forward and collects the cycles after 28 days, they can be donated to charity.

PCSO Tracey Tynan said: “The bikes were in a bit of a state but the group soon got to work and fixed them. It’s great that they have been rewarded for their hard work by getting to keep them.”

Youth worker Joanna Wolfe, from Dean’s Activity Centre, said: “My colleague, Glyn Thompson and I approached Tracey for help and she duly obliged. The purpose of the project was to get young people working together as a team, understand the basics of how a bike works and for them to learn about the health benefits of cycling.”
