Arrests following Peel Green shop assault
Five people have been charged after a shopkeeper's hands were slashed with a machete.

Liam Trimmer, born 22/9/91, Heron Drive, Irlam, and Ashley Doyle, born, 23/8/91, of Hampson Close, Eccles, were both charged with section 18 wounding and attempted robbery.

Debbie Grove, born 9/8/91, of Hampson Close, Eccles, two boys aged 15 and a girl aged 16, all from Salford, have also been charged with assisting an offender.

They all appeared before Salford magistrates today, Tuesday 16 March 2010.

Shortly before 1pm on Wednesday 10 March 2010, the 53-year-old victim was in the back room of the newsagents on New Lane, Peel Green, Salford.

He returned to the shop front and was confronted by four men who were trying to steal his till. One of them then hit him on the hands with an 18 inch-long machete, leaving him with a deep cut to both hands.

The victim was taken to hospital for emergency surgery to his hand and remains in hospital in a stable condition.

Absolutely disgusting. This must have been a terrible ordeal for the poor shopworker concerned! Hope that he makes a full recovery soon.
