Police remind residents to keep homes secure
Greater Manchester Police’s Salford Division are reminding residents of the importance of keeping homes secure during the warm weather There have been seven incidents across the city over the weekend (5 June – 6 June) where criminals have entered homes via insecure windows or doors. Crime Reduction Advisor for Salford Division, Fiona James said: “It can be tempting to leave doors and windows open in an attempt to cool down but this acts as an invitation to burglars to steal your possessions. A third of burglaries are down to insecurities in the home so it is important residents take a few simple steps to avoid this type of crime. Please ensure that all doors and windows are kept secure, even if you are staying inside. If you are going out, use a timer with a light so it gives the impression that someone is home. “Insecure burglaries can also have a knock on effect on insurance claims if you have not secured your property” Thieves will also be looking for insecure garden sheds, to steal equipment or use the tools to break into your home Fiona added: ”People are more likely to spend time working in the garden or garage during the nice weather so it is vital that tools are secured in a safe place to prevent them being stolen or used to gain access to your property” To report crime call police on 0161 872 5050 or for more information visit gmp.police.uk.
