Salford officer to Help our Heroes
An officer from Greater Manchester Police’s Salford Division has helped raise hundreds of pounds for the Help for Heroes charity by running 26 miles in a marathon. PC Darren Wright from Salford East Neighbourhood Policing Team took part in the Blackpool marathon earlier this year and raised over £1,500 for ex colleagues that have been wounded during conflict. Before joining Salford Division, Darren was a member of the Royal Air Force regiment and served in The Gulf and Kosovo. He trained four times a week, increasing his mileage each time and managed to complete the run in an impressive four hours and 32 minutes. Darren said: “By previously serving with the armed forces I know the incredibly brave work our troops undertake in difficult conditions, always putting other people’s safety before their own. I was inspired to help raise money by a documentary I saw on TV that featured soldiers returning from Afghanistan with devastating injuries. Their attitude and outlook on what they had been through was amazing. I hope the money raised can help contribute towards making the lives of those who have been hurt that little bit better.” The money raised will go towards rehabilitation centres to improve the soldier’s quality of life.
