Police advise shoppers how to keep their property safe
Police officers will be urging supermarket visitors across Salford to make their valuables less appealing to thieves. Police community support officers (PCSOs) will be based at the entrances of two major supermarkets in the city. They will give residents information on how they can keep their homes safe and not present easy opportunities to thieves looking for valuables left in vehicles. They will also be promoting Home Watch schemes and offering home security risk assessments. Crime reduction advisor for Salford Division, Fiona James, said: “There are a number of simple steps you can take to help keep your home safe from burglars. A third of burglaries are down to doors and windows being left open so it is important you keep them locked at all times. This not only applies to when you go out but when you are staying in too. If you do go out, set a timer light so it looks like someone is in and don’t forget to set your alarm if you have one. “Thieves are always on the look out for an easy opportunity so please make sure you have taken all valuables out of your car. Empty your glove box and leave it open so people can see there is nothing in there to take. If you have a CD or stereo, remove the fascia if you can and don’t forget to wipe away any tell tale signs of a sat nav.” To contact your local Neighbourhood Policing Team phone or email: Salford North Neighbourhood Policing Team: 0161 856 5228 – salfordnorth.neighbourhood@gmp.police.uk Salford East Neighbourhood Policing Team: 0161 856 5127 – salfordeast.neighbourhood@gmp.police.uk Salford Central Neighbourhood Policing Team: 0161 856 5084 – salfordcentral.neighbourhood@gmp.police.uk Salford South Neighbourhood Policing Team: 0161 856 5317 – salfordsouth.neighbourhood@gmp.police.uk Salford West Neighbourhood Policing Team: 0161 856 5284 – salfordwest.neighbourhood@gmp.police.uk Due to problems with spam only SalfordOnline members can now leave comments.
