Police warning for motorcyclists in Salford
Police are urging motorbike owners to secure their vehicles following a spate of thefts across Salford.

In the last month, 16 motorbikes have been stolen.

Police believe that the bikes are being taken by joy riders, or are being sold on for parts or scrap metal.

Officers have stepped up patrols but are advising motorcyclists to secure their bikes to an immovable item using high security products.

Crime Reduction Advisor Glyn Wood said: “Most motorbikes are stolen by joy riders who are looking for a quick thrill, however with the cost of scrap metal increasing we are concerned that thieves might be targeting motorbikes for their metal content.

“Although the police are taking action to address the issue, we need motorbike owners to ensure that their bike is as secure as possible to deter thieves.

“Using Sold Secure approved locks, attach your bike by its frame to an immovable object in a well-lit area.

“I’d also advise motorcyclists to keep a record of the engine and chassis numbers and any modifications or stickers fitted to the motorcycle to help police distinguish it in the event that it is stolen and recovered.

“If you see anything suspicious then please contact the police on 0161 872 50 50 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
