No arrests during protests across Greater Manchester
Not a single arrest was made during protests at five locations across Greater Manchester. Up to 20,000 demonstrators were involved in a march and rally in Manchester city centre. An estimated 200 people were involved in a protest in Oldham and up to 500 at each of the three other sites: Bury, Bolton and Wigan. Assistant Chief Constable Ian Hopkins, said: “An estimated 20,000 people have had their voices heard in a peaceful and legal way across the county and the fact we have not made a single arrest is testament to the way in which the protestors have conducted themselves. “While the 24-hour strike across public services continues everyone can be reassured that we have spent weeks planning for today to ensure all services to the public are maintained.” Source: GMP.
