2009: the Year the World Learnt to Wash Its Hands, Global Survey Reveals91.3% of people in China, 88.6% in the UK and 87.6% in the US have started washing their hands more often since the outbreak of swine flu, a research published by SCA, one of the world's leading consumer product manufacturers in the field of hygiene and tissue paper, reveals. The results of SCA's 2010 'Hygiene Matters' report suggest that the hygiene and hand washing campaigns carried out by both governments and hygiene brands have been successful. Each year SCA conducts a global survey of people's attitudes and habits regarding hygiene and health and how these relate to other current issues and trends. This year's survey highlights how globalization is influencing health and hygiene around the world, and focuses on the issues of pandemics, urbanization, the school environment and information gathering. Washing and drying your hands with a single use paper towel, is the simplest and most effective way of breaking the chain of infection. Textile towels and air dryers are not recommended in public areas with many visitors, as they risk spreading germs. To wash your hands properly: Wet your hands with running, lukewarm water. Add liquid soap to palms. Rub your hands together to create a lather. Make sure you cover every part of your hands and fingers. Rinse well under warm running water. Dry your hands thoroughly with a single use paper towel. Remember, clean and dry hands are safe hands!
