Greater Manchester West Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust are now holding elections to their Council of Governors, with users of substance misuse services being asked to nominate themselves. The Trust’s Council of Governors includes staff governors, service user governors, carer governors, public governors and appointed governors from partner organisations. The elected governors stand for a three year period. There are a number of governor seats due for election in 2010. The main duties of a Governor includes; attending Council of Governors Meetings, appointing key figures such as the Council of Governors Chairperson and Non Executive Directors, representing their constituents, signing off key financial documents such as the annual accounts, appointing auditors and acting as representatives of the Trust. Alan Maden, Trust Chairman said: “Governors at GMW make a real difference to our service users, staff and local communities.
