Video: Under 50pc of Salford over-60s taking help for bowel cancer
The NHS will be holding free events to help local people with advice and information on bowel cancers and screenings in the New Year.

The Bowel Cancer Screening Team will be holding an information stand in Walkden, Eccles and Pendleton Gateway throughout in January 2012 from 10am and 2pm.

Bowel cancer mostly affects those over sixty.

The NHS offers screening every two years to all men and women aged 60 to 69. People over 70 can request a screening kit by calling the freephone helpline 0800 707 6060.

Julie Wright is a project worker for the Greater Manchester Screening Team for the disease.

She says: "We are trying to show people how easy it is to complete the free Screening Kit.

"Bowel cancer is 90% curable when caught in its earliest stages but less than half of Salford residents are completing the kit."

The team will be in the foyer of Walkden Gateway on 12th January, Pendleton Gateway on 16th January and Eccles Gateway on 23rd January.
