In results published earlier today, the Department of Health’s latest National Cancer Patient Experience Survey ranks The Christie as being one of the top organisations in the country. The Christie was revealed as being in the top 20% of organisations for overall treatment and care, with 90% of the specialist cancer centre’s patients rating their care as ‘excellent’ or ‘very good’.
The survey asked patients for their experiences across the whole pathway from the first presentation with their GP to The Christie, measuring the responses against national frameworks.
Chief Executive of The Christie, Caroline Shaw, said:
“Receiving such good feedback from patients who have had their own personal experience with cancer is incredibly valuable to us. Someone’s cancer journey is a very complex and personal one that can be shaped and guided by healthcare professionals that specialise in this area of care. I am therefore delighted to hear this kind of feedback directly from patients who have been through the experience, and would like to thank all of The Christie staff who have contributed to these results.”
In the same UK-wide survey, The Christie was also listed in the top 20% of hospital for 31% of the questions asked.
Caroline Shaw continues:
“It’s even more promising to see that there have been significant improvements in 42% of the questions compared with the results from 2010. Despite the quality of feedback we receive through surveys such as this, we continually review our services and operations to ensure we are always developing and making improvements where necessary.”
The national survey questioned patients with a primary cancer diagnosis who were admitted as either an inpatient or day case, but all of who were discharged between September and November 2011.
