Services for Salford residents are a national success
Housing landlord Salix Homes has picked up national awards for tackling antisocial behaviour in central Salford and keeping communities clean and safe

It is the one of only two organisations of its kind in the country to be given the HouseMark seal of approval for the way it deals with antisocial behaviour.

The housing company which looks after around 10,500 homes on behalf of Salford City Council was visited by inspectors over a five day period.

They commended Salix Homes for its 24-hour contact service (0800 218 2000) for residents to report incidents of antisocial behaviour which includes the new the first response emergency out-of-hours team.

The housing company has also been given a Cleaner, Safer, Greener quality mark from the environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy for its work in Ordsall and Langworthy neighbourhoods.

Inspectors spent time with officers out in the community and interviewed residents and staff about the work being done to look after their homes and surrounding areas.

They highlighted Salix Homes' rapid response team which deals with reports of fly-tipping by going out to remove dumped waste as an area of best practice.

Partnership working with the city council, the police, fire service and other agencies was also identified as a key strength.

Sue Sutton, Salix Homes' head of better neighbourhoods said: "We're delighted that we've been nationally recognised for the services we provide for residents.

"Our customers have been involved throughout the assessment process which is reassurance that we're not just performing well nationally, but that we're doing things right for tenants too.

"We've made great strides in developing our antisocial behaviour service over the last 18 months and are proud that we've set an example for other housing providers to follow."

Separately Salix Homes has been awarded 'achieving' status against the Equality Framework for Local Government.

The standard recognises how well the organisation knows its communities, its engagement with neighbourhoods and customer care.

Councillor Connor, Salford City Council's lead member for housing added: "It's encouraging to see that the arrangement we have in place with Salix Homes to manage our council-owned properties in central Salford is delivering positive results.

"These achievements are a testimony to the hard work and commitment of both the city council and Salix Homes to provide quality services on behalf of residents in the city and I'm pleased that we're continuing to raise our standards and set an example to other organisations."

big thank you to Salix Homes, in January when the boler packed up, they provided us with blankets ans heaters, and a special big thank you to the gentleman from the 1st Response team who despite all the snow managed to get them to our house at midnight, in this day its easy to call organisations when things go wrong, but it about time some one gave them the credit they deserve, again, many thanks Salix Homes

What needs to happen is that when a Council House is sold to its tenant, that money is then used to build 2 more Council Houses.

That's great news - IF you can get a council home in the first place. I've been on the list for 11 years and never been offered a single home.
