Salix Homes shortlisted for top UK Housing Award
Salix Homes is in the running to win a major national award for a project that sets out to challenge stereotypes and raise awareness of different cultures and communities in Central Salford The housing organisation has been selected from 240 entries as one of six finalists in the Valuing Equality and Diversity category of the 2011 UK Housing Awards. The UK Housing Awards are in their 15th year and recognise outstanding work in the housing sector which improves the lives of people in their communities. Salix Homes' award entry focused on the ‘Making Differences Count’ project. Through the project, a critically acclaimed film has been made to celebrate diversity and stamp out stereotypes. The film featured refugees and asylum seekers alongside disabled residents. Last year, Salix Homes scooped three titles at the prestigious awards for involving and empowering communities, including the Outstanding Achievement in Housing in the UK award. Alison Hamnett, Salix Homes' Director of Improvement and Customer Service said: "Making Differences Count brings groups of people from different backgrounds together to learn from each other and help them better understand the diverse communities they live in. Nomination for this award recognises both the outstanding success of this project and Salix Homes’ ongoing commitment to providing quality housing and services for all our customers." The UK Housing Awards are organised by Inside Housing magazine and the Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH). The winners will be revealed at an awards ceremony at London’s Hilton Hotel on 9 November hosted by Michael Portillo.
