Clifton action week success
City West held a week of action in the Clifton neighbourhood in partnership with Greater Manchester Police, Greater Manchester Fire Service, Salford City Council, the NHS and the Forestry Commission. The week began with Salford City Council’s Community Pay Back team cleaning the back of the shops on Clifton Green. City West contractors MITIE and Enterprise also worked with local children to hold a litter pick in the area. City West staff conducted tenancy visits throughout the week as well as holding drop in sessions on the City West Chatterbus. Tuesday saw MITIE and the Fire Service hold a sports challenge with a football cage and penalty shoot out competition. The Clifton Tenant’s and Resident’s Association provided Pumpkin carving with local residents volunteering their support. A Halloween Arts Day was held on Wednesday at Clifton Youth Centre where young people got involved in lots of arts and crafts including mask making, t-shirt making, a colouring competition, balloon modelling and wordsearches. The sessions were split into 2 two hour sessions and over 20 young people attended. Greater Manchester Police delivered free SmartWater kits to Clifton residents throughout the week whilst the Clifton United Tenant’s and Resident’s Association (CUTRA) held an over 55’s coffee morning at the Clifton Resource Centre. The week ended with the Forestry Commission holding two conservation exercises in the woodland near the Clifton Resource Centre which included a clearance of the overgrown vegetation at the edge of the wood. The week was a great success and saw members of the community of all ages join the wide range of events on offer. Source: City West Housing.
