Salix Homes bag national award for valuing equality and diversity
Salix Homes has won a major national award for a project that sets out to challenge stereotypes and raise awareness of different cultures and communities in Central Salford. Selected from 240 entries as one of the six finalists in the Valuing Equality and Diversity category of the 2011 UK Housing Awards, we were up against stiff competition. The UK Housing Awards are in their 15th year and recognise outstanding work in the housing sector which improves the lives of people in their communities. Our entry focused on the ‘Making Differences Count’ project. Through the project, a critically acclaimed film was made to celebrate diversity and stamp out stereotypes. The film featured refugees and asylum seekers alongside disabled residents. Alison Hamnett, Salix Homes' Director of Improvement and Customer Service said: "Making Differences Count brings groups of people from different backgrounds together to learn from each other and help them better understand the diverse communities they live in. This is a fantastic achievement and recognises both the outstanding success of this project and Salix Homes’ ongoing commitment to providing quality housing and services for all our customers."
