Keeping Warm, Keeping Well in Salford
Residents in Salford are being encouraged to ‘Keep Warm and Keep Well’ this winter with the help of Salix Homes, their partners and Salford City Council. The social housing provider, Salix Homes has carried out a series of activities to help local residents ensure their homes remain warm throughout the cold winter months, especially during severe weather. Staff from Salix Homes took part in home visits to over 100 older residents,. Each tenant was provided with a pack containing items to keep warm, top tips for staying healthy during the winter months and advice and information should things go wrong. Based on feedback received via a questionnaire, Salix Homes will tailor a number of their services including: further assistance and support in cold weather; that heating systems are working properly in the run up to the winter period and further advice on affordable energy, including energy efficiency advice and home energy audits. Sue Sutton, director of customer and neighbourhood services at Salix Homes said: “This excise has proved to be very popular with tenants, which is great news, as the Keep Warm, Keep Well campaign is one of our top priorities throughout the winter. The general feedback we have received is that Salix Homes is very good at caring for the elderly, with one lady in particular writing to us to express her thanks. Keeping warm over the winter months is imperative for people of all ages, but especially so for the most vulnerable in our communities. Simple things like ensuring the heating is switched on continuously between 18 and 20 degrees can make a real difference to keeping a warm home, as well as preventing more serious health problems.” Resident Irene Jones said: “The staff at Salix Homes are always very helpful and always willing to help out with their customer’s questions. The goody bag and shawl were a real treat before Christmas.” As well as home visits, the Salix Homes staff attended three events arranged by partners to promote ‘Keep Warm, Keep Well’, which over 100 people attended.
