MPs Hear From Police

MPs have heard from police leaders about their dispute with the home secretary over the delay of a 2.5 per cent pay increase until December.

The chief constable of Nottinghamshire Police, who appeared before the Commons home affairs committee, read out an email from a policewoman who was shot by a burglar criticising the government's "lack of respect" for the police.

Committee chairman Keith Vaz has called on the government to pay the full increase.

The Mail notes that what it calls "Blunkett's bobbies" - community support officers introduced by the former home secretary - will have their pay rises backdated.
