Statistics by the police authority published alongside the quarterly report show a 10% drop in overall crime figures recorded by Greater Manchester Police during September 2008-09. The Home Office’s Crime in England and Wales 2008-09 report also shows a 25.5% drop in total recorded crime in Salford since 2002. Barbara said: “These latest figures reveal a significant drop in crime despite the economic downturn. Not only has crime been reduced by 8% across the UK during a tough economic downturn, but there has been a long term drop in crime in Salford – a drop of 25.5% since 2002. “Crime reduction in Salford has not happened by accident. It is due to the work of our local police supported by neighbourhood teams, who have my full support.
