The fall in crime is shown in the latest quarterly report of crime statistics recorded by the police. These latest figures confirm a long-term drop in recorded crime locally. Statistics by the police authority published alongside the quarterly report show a 10% drop in overall crime figures recorded by Greater Manchester Police during September 2008-09. The Home Office’s Crime in England and Wales 2008-09 report also shows a 25.5% drop in total recorded crime in Salford since 2002. Barbara said: “These latest figures reveal a significant drop in crime despite the economic downturn. Not only has crime been reduced by 8% across the UK during a tough economic downturn, but there has been a long term drop in crime in Salford – a drop of 25.5% since 2002. “Crime reduction in Salford has not happened by accident. It is due to the work of our local police supported by neighbourhood teams, who have my full support. Police officers and community support officers in Salford should be very proud of their work.”
