Call for young designers to save Salford's pedestrians

DriveSafe, Greater Manchester’s Casualty Reduction Partnership, is sending out a final call to students to don their creative caps and come up with a winning logo and landing page design for its campaign to make roads safer for pedestrians.

Shocking statistics released by DriveSafe highlight that the one of the biggest threats to pedestrian safety is their use of mobile phones and iPods.

The partnership’s annual casualty figures indicate that almost 90 pedestrians were killed or seriously injured on Salford’s roads between 2007 and 2009, with statistics from across Greater Manchester indicating that more than 50 per cent of the incidents occurred as a direct result of pedestrians not paying attention to the road.

The competition that closes on 12th November 2010, is part of the ‘Don’t Live Your Life In A Bubble,’ campaign that has been launched by DriveSafe, to raise pedestrian awareness of the dangers of using handheld gadgets and not paying attention while using the county’s roads.

Not only will the winning design be transformed into a live landing page, but it will form the campaign’s official branding. The winner will also receive their final artwork framed along with an annual travel card from System One.

Karen Delaney, communications manager at DriveSafe, said: “We’ve had some fantastic designs so far and it’s great to see so many young people getting involved, but the competition is open until mid-November so we want to remind students that it’s still not too late to get creative and keep the entries coming in thick and fast.”

lol. would it be too harsh to physically glue an iphone or an ipod to a young person's face to aid this campaign?

My poster would say "And that, my friend, is what you call Darwinism". Pity I'm too old to submit it. =)
