Stuff2send.com helps bridge the mobility gap
People who buy bulky items from web sites like e-Bay and pre-loved.co.uk are increasingly turning to www.stuff2send.com, the UK’s growing community of delivery drivers. It’s a cheaper way to deliver goods to a destination, as parcels and packages travel in vehicles already going that way.

By using the site, some senders have reported saving up to ten times what they would otherwise pay for delivery. They’re also enjoying a door-to-door service, an important benefit for the elderly, those with mobility issues or those without a local post office.

Amanda’s story:
Birmingham resident Amanda Webster used Stuff2Send in February after a friend heard about the site on Chris Evans’ radio show.

Earlier in the year, her wheelchair had been stolen, but she’d found two replacements on the second-hand goods site www.preloved.co.uk . The chairs belonged to a lady in Manchester who was also mobility impaired, so the problem was how to get them back to Amanda’s home.

Amanda was not comfortable driving to Manchester, but the cheapest delivery company quoted £200. That was more than twice the price of the two chairs. Shortly after posting the two wheelchairs to stuff2send.com however, a chap from Stoke made Amanda an offer of just £20.00 to carry them in his car. She eagerly accepted.

On delivery day the snow arrived and Amanda admitted to being a little concerned. However, the chairs arrived 15 minutes ahead of the agreed time.

“He brought them right to the door which was just wonderful,” said Amanda. “It made life so much easier, knowing I didn’t have to do that journey myself. I’d definitely use the site again; I think it’s a wonderful service.”
Site founder Colin Hay added, “This is a lovely story and we’re delighted it all worked well for Amanda. In these tough times you can bag yourself a real bargain on second-hand goods sites, but people are still left with the problem of getting the goods from A to B at a reasonable price. That’s where our community of delivery drivers can help.”

Although Amanda’s delivery driver was a private motorist, professional couriers are also benefiting from www.stuff2send.com, using the service to fill empty vehicles with stuff on return journeys.

One of the first to benefit was Mick Davidson, owner of Carrick Couriers based in Cornwall. He picked up some HiFi equipment in Knutsford and delivered them to an address close to his base in Falmouth.

“Stuff2Send put me in touch with a customer 400 miles away who I wouldn't otherwise have known about,” he said. “We both gained from the service.”
