First ever Salford Cycle and 10k

by Mark Bright

Well-known Salford lad Fred Done (owner of Betfred) has created an annual running and cycling event for the City of Salford.

The inaugural event takes place on Sunday 27th September with a 1-km time trialled cycle event, as well as a 10km run.

The Salford Cycle time trial commences at 12noon and riders will be chip timed over a 1km route again starting and finishing at the Lowry Plaza.

There is a Formula 1-esque system of qualification, where riders are given two opportunities to set a time. The top ten in each age group progress to a final, where they can compete to win a prize.

The age categories are 12-14, 15-17, 18-39 and 40+.

There is also a Corporate Challenge, where teams of three can compete, with the lowest aggregate time taking victory.

Entrants are being encouraged to help six nominated charities - Mencap, the New Manchester Children’s Hospital, the Salford Mayor’s Charity Appeal, Sparks, Salford Lads and Girls Club and Inscape House.
