Three men have been jailed after committing a series of betting shop robberies in Salford.
Daniel Hague (born 12/10/1991) of Brydon Close, Pendleton, pleaded guilty at an earlier hearing at Minshull Street Crown Court and was sentenced to five years imprisonment for five counts of robbery, four counts of attempted robbery and possession of an offensive weapon.
Lee Sweeney (born 08/09/1988) of Great Cheetham Street East, Salford, pleaded guilty at an earlier hearing at Minshull Street Crown Court and was sentenced to three years and six months imprisonment for two counts of attempted robbery and possession of an offensive weapon.
Daniel Cowgill (born 20/01/1991) of Pentlands Ave, Higher Broughton, pleaded guilty at an earlier hearing at Minshull Street Crown Court and was sentenced to six years and six months imprisonment for three counts of robbery, two counts of attempted robbery, possession of an offensive weapon, taking without consent, aggravated taking without consent, burglary and dangerous driving.
The sentence relates to the robbery of five betting shops and four attempted robberies of betting shops dating from Thursday 20 August 2009 - Monday 7 September 2009.
On each occasion either two or three masked men would raid the bookmakers, brandishing weapons including machetes, knives and hammers.
They would threaten staff members, who, in fear for their lives, would hand over money to the offenders.
Police Constable Charlotte Quinn said: "This sentence will be music to the ears of many staff members in the Salford area.
"There was concern because of what was happening in the area and the detention of these men will hopefully put everyone at ease.
"Today's result sends out a clear message that this type of crime will not be tolerated."
