Breathe Clean Air Group thanks Salford supporters About five hundred people marched through Urmston and Davyhulme on Saturday to protest about the controversial incinerator which is proposed to be built in Davyhulme.
Chairman of the Breathe Clean Air Group, Peter Kilvert said, "we are very grateful to Salford people for turning out to swell the ranks of the protest. We also appreciate the support of Hazel Blears, Barbara Keeley and Sleepless in Salford, who also share our fears, that if the plant is built, dangerous toxins will float into Salford and cause ill-health problems".
As the enthusiastic marchers approached Urmston Bridge in the middle of Urmston, the police advised it would be safer to cut through the new shopping centre at Eden Square. This delighted the organisers, as in the last few weeks, security staff there had prevented the Breathe Clean Air Group using their property to collect petition signatures and to distribute leaflets.
Following the march, a Rally was held in Davyhulme Park, where, local MP Kate Green, Councillors and members of Breathe Clean Air Group expressed great concern about building an incinerator in a built up area and the real dangers of emissions, toxic chemicals and cancer. Jo Burgess said that we only have until Wednesday to get our objections to Trafford Council. We are doing this for our children and grandchildren. Now is the time to stand up and be counted. Please object now.

You're right Ricky... but worse things have happened in the past... flying in the face of what is supposed to be democracy. Sadly, money seems to carry more clout than what people see as their basic rights, and what can be more basic than to breathe clean air? Sorry I couldn't personally attend the last march, and delighted it went so well. All we can do is fight such companies as Peel Holdings and Skye Properties and hope the planners listen and do the right thing... reject the Barton and Monton incinerators for the obscene intrusions into our living environments that they are. |

The council will have a lot of explaining to do if they even attempt to pass this. |

Jon England (Peel Energy) informed a group of people at the consultation evening last month, that the electricity would go to Redclyffe rd then supply 'The Trafford Centre and other businesses'. They have suddenly changed to about '40000 houses'. Peel, your tactics will not work. We are not going to allow this pollution in a residential area. Lucas North |

I was on the march. It was great. It seemed to wake up Urmston to the threat of polluted air. The children were in full voice. After all, it's very much their future. Come on the rest of you. Wake up before it's too late. We need to protect our air. Protest to Trafford Council. |

Peel Energy says that their so called clean energy plant is going to supply 37,000 homes with electricity. That's a LIE. It's a LIE that Peel Energy needs to deny. The electricity will go to the Trafford Centre and Salford Reds stadium, but the rest goes into the National Grid. It does NOT go to 37,000 homes at all. For all we know, they could be planning to supply this electricty to factories, that will pollute our atmosphere even more. Come on Peel, come clean. Admit that you WON'T be supplying 37,000 homes with electricity. LIES all LIES. (Private Eye) |

Thanks Brian. Just to let people know that the Breathe Clean Air Group website is www.BreatheCleanAirGoup.co.uk. If you want to protest contact development.control@trafford.gov.uk, quote ref. number 76153/FULL/2010 and give a couple of reasons why you don't want the plant. You have until this Wednesday 12th January to lodge a protest. Pete |
