Salford Music Map Goes On ShowFrom Ewan MacColl to Justin Timberlake, New Order to the Ting Tings.... Following research into Salford’s rich musical history the city’s first ever Music Map, pinpointing many iconic locations, will be revealed on 24 October 2008 at the Quiffs, Riffs and Tiffs exhibition at Salford Museum and Art and Gallery. Join music author and TV producer David Nolan as he takes you on a tour of previously secret locations that helped to forge the UK’s music scene as we know it today. The tour will also reclaim some legendary ‘Manchester’ music myths that rightly belong to Salford and will show surprising connections with acts such as the Sex Pistols, The Hollies, Sugababes, Fast Cars and Nico. The tour is followed with a party at Salford Museum and Art Gallery to launch Quiffs, Riffs and Tiffs: The story of popular music in Salford from 1950 to today. In the exhibition Salford musicians, bands, managers, fans and producers recount their personal stories and along with the Music Map show the unique musical character of this city. Drinks and nibbles will be provided, along with acoustic sets from Salford’s hottest bands throughout the evening and a celebrity opener. Don’t miss this opportunity to come and meet some of Salford’s renowned musicians and artists to celebrate the opening of the exhibition and the unveiling of the 3D Music Map.
