Posted by Editor on 16th December 2009 at 07:08 PM Video: Are these the best Christmas Lights in Salford
by Tony Flynn If you live near Lancaster Road or Oxford Road, Salford then you could not fail to miss what is the home to possibly the largest outdoor Santas Grotto that we have ever seen.... welcome to David Brierley's front garden!
There are literally dozens of Santas, snowmen, reindeers, huge inflatable figures, hundreds of flashing lights, a Santa's post box and even a traditional crib complete with religious figures.
The house is fast proving to be somewhat of a tourist attraction with people coming from miles away to look at the attraction.
As soon as dusk falls, cars are regularly parked outside the house with delighted onlookers and local people who bring their children to marvel at David's handiwork.
Children from the nearby Light Oaks School are regular visitors to the house, so much so that they even send him Christmas cards to thank him for the enjoyment that he brings them with the display.
David has been putting on his display for over twenty years now and says that he has no intention of stopping, as he gets his reward by seeing the smiles on peoples faces.
Do you know of a similar display or possibly a larger one than David's? If so please contact us at SalfordOnline as we would love to see this.

Maybe making a donation to a children's charity would be a much better way to spend money at Christmas [which is what I do]. It would also be better for the environment less hazardous for motorists and less annoying for the neighbours. I know I am one. Trust me I am neither a grump or angry and I am entitled to my opinion. I find this an incredible waste and an eyesore. What does the man want a medal. Ho ho ho! |

If you want to get angry about wasted energy get angry about all the lights left on in offices in Salford Quays all year round, not this bloke who is trying and succeeding in cheering up people on his road at Christmas! |

What is wrong with somebody enjoying Xmas and sharing it with other people, you must be a right stick in the mud. |

Yet another fascinating viddy. Thanks Tony. Made my day. The Salford Griswalds? When I left England 25 years ago there was no such tradition in the U.K. First time I saw it was my first Xmas here. I guess it's been another Yankee import. |
