Posted by Editor on 11th January 2010 at 01:49 PM Protesters say Emphatic No to Green Lane incinerator
by Tony Flynn Over a hundred local residents attended the first public meeting of the Say No To Green Lane Incinerator group on Saturday at The Queens Arms public house, Green Lane, Patricroft, Eccles.
Salford MP Hazel Blears was present to chair the meeting whilst answering questions from concerned residents whilst pledging her full support to the opposition to the proposed incinerator, stating that it was, "her moral and legal obligation to support the campaign".
The opposition group was founded by locals, Hani El-Qasem, Kirsteen McGarva, Colin Long and Lisa Hughes who told a packed room of the dangers that the proposed incinerator would bring if Energos were allowed to build on the site of the old Mitchell and Shackleton factory off Green Lane, Eccles.
The site would treat over 240,000 tonnes of waste a year including 80,000 tonnes of incineration material, with an estimated 84 rubbish trucks per day (one every 8 minutes) using the already congested Green Lane, with the site running 24 hours a day.
Hani says amongst the forseeable problems will be health risks from dioxins emitted from the plant, environmental smells which can carry for several miles, lower property prices, already estate agents Migratio have reported the fall through of a proposed sale after news of the incineration site was made known, whilst the site would be within approximately 50 metres of homes and a childrens play area sited on Shackleton Street whilst the constant flow of heavy goods vehicles would bring havoc to the already congested local roads.
Local councillor Jane Murphy came under criticism from the opposition group when asked if she was for or against the incinceration plant and stated that she needed to know all the facts before committing herself which was met with derisive laughter.
Having said that it is a complex issue with the core strategy document being over 250 pages long and local residents objections have to be in to the council by THIS FRIDAY.
Others who voiced their objections were Iain Lindley, councillor for Walkden South, and Jackie Anderson from the Barton Moss Protest Group.
The next meeting is provisionally scheduled for 2pm, the 23rd January at the same venue.

Sauce Consultancy, Sky/Energos' PR representatives have announced details of the first Community Liaison Group meeting. The meeting is open to all but Sauce have requested you contact them to confirm your attendance "if you are interested". There is plenty of room at the Monton House hotel so the more the merrier! Anyone who missed the original exhibition due to not being aware of it should think about getting down there. Just send them an email and tell them you'll be there.

Carvath, You’re a fool. No matter what she says she is a member of a Labour Government who believes in Europe and this is a European Directive, she will toe the party line, remember Hands of Hope Hospital Maternity Unit. She can’t be trusted; you’ve all got short memories. |

Your only and arch anything (other than idiot) in your own mind Richard and I notice your not commenting on the existence or not of Dixgood-Jones |

As the arch-rival of Hazel Blears even I will defend her against the previous ridiculous comment! I have absolutely no doubt that Hazel Blears' support for this cause is genuinely based on the merits of the cause and is not a cynical political expedient for the benefit of her electoral prospects. |

Its ok Blears chairing a meeting she doesn’t believe in. Its just another bandwagon to jump on, she cant be trusted. Remember the Expense scandal, any issue to get re-elected. It’s a European directive and labour believe in Europe, what ever she tells you, she’s a liar. |

The EU's Waste Framework Directive
tackles the 38.2kg of CO2 of waste
which we produce in our homes each
week. The annual amount of waste
produced in the UK is 434 million tonnes
and yet we currently recycle only 31% of
municipal waste. Labour MEPs had
fought for binding recycling and reuse
targets to be achieved by 2020. Our new
targets will see us work towards the
recycling or reuse of 50% of household
waste and 70% of construction and
demolition waste. |

I find it shocking that Sky Properties have even been allowed to build this monstrosity and health hazard. I did see a leaflet from the company in a nice green cover with Eco-Green on it, which at first glance gives the impression that they are a eco friendly company, a load of tosh. Springfield power plant springs to mind. Just give these people short shrift and clear them off, if everybody gets behind this campaign we will win. Join the Facebook group or look at the Eco Dump links, we are many they are few. |

I was at the meeting as people have already said. I can confirm that I am totally opposed to the incinerator. I did not speak at this particular meeting because I was busy with operating a video-camera. I'm happy to address future meetings of the Say No to Green Lane Incinerator group. The Green Lane issue is not party political. All politicians in Salford - Hazel, Iain, Barbara, me, everybody - are unanimous in our opposition to the incinerator proposal. As for the general issue of me speaking at meetings, I speak at some meetings and not at others, depending on the circumstances (just like any other politician). |

I was at a community committee that RC attended. He was also very, very quiet there. I'm probably veeering off-topic here but maybe he's just generally very quiet in meetings. |

I was also at this meeting, I did notice that Mr Carvath did not ask a single question or make any comment on the incinerator debate, why not as the so called PPC for the area. |

Now this just puts the icing on the cake of Carvath posting as other people and speaking about himself in the third person!! What next "Guest's" giving updates of Carvath's bowel movements??? RB |

Richard Carvath attended the first meeting of the Say No To Green Lane Incinerator Group. Richard is totally opposed to the incinerator. Richard made several videos of the meeting and these are freely available on Youtube. |
