David Henry chosen to stand against Hazel
by Tom Rodgers

In a two-horse race between trade union activist Alec McFadden and the head of Salford Youth Council, community campaigner David Henry was last night chosen as the candidate for "Hazel Must Go".

It was a surprise move to many, as pundits expected the much older McFadden to win out to take the fight to the Salford and Eccles seat.

Since its inception the group have led a series of high profile attacks on Hazel Blears. After the scandal over MPs expenses David attempted to perform a citizen's arrest, notably arriving at Hazel's Chapel Street office with handcuffs.

The group have attracted national and regional media attention - as they did last night with ITV and ITN TV trucks turning up at the Old Pint Pot pub before the selection meeting.

At the meeting David talked about the "importance of being a conduit through which people could feel they had a say in the political system", highlighted the importance of new media, and pledged to fight at "grassroots" level.

Video footage is to follow later today.

Please don't vote out of habit. Voting Labour because you support The Working Class is like voting for Jeremy Clarkson beacuse you like Public Transport!

I think this kid's just got to get his name out there as, like you say, he could get the protest vote not going to Blears, although Joe O Neill's a strong local candidate with a track record in helping his constituents

David could well pick up the protest vote, if that is significant numbers wise we'll have to wait and see but I'm sure he will liven up the race regardless.

Its looking better for Blears all the time I'm afraid, I think that the conservatives could push a fairly weak Lib dem campaign / candidate into third. Of the independents only J O'Niell has any real experience and local support but I just don't see him as a political animal campaigning wise and as a result he probably won't break the "I vote for the party not the candidate" habit of most voters. The only certainty is Carvath and the raving religious anti women/gay/everyone who's not an evangelical Christian party are a dead cert for last place.

Blears first (due to the blinkered 'my dad voted liebour, so will I') brigade. Tina Wingfield second.

"Jo" O'Neill is unknown with no support? Um, he's an elected councillor.

Jo O'Neil and Carvath will without a doubt finish last. They are unknown and have no visible support from anywhere.

Salfordians, if you want a Marxist to represent you then vote for David Henry, but remember this he will be funded by the Trade Unions, so he wont be representing Salford he will be representing the Unions. Communist always have Blood on their hands, through the years.

Here's my early pick for the results. Blears to win with a vastly reduced majority. Owen distant second, Joe O Neill a respectable third, David an enterprising fourth, Conservatives fifth, BNP pick up a couple of stragglers and Carvath a dead last

WOW Brilliant. With David being such a strong local candidate, rumour has it David is being poached by a number of groups and hasn't confirmed if he will stand for the trade unionists. It's unusual for a candidate to have so much support from all the various Socialist groups, the Labour party rebels and the Green Party. Where are all Carvath's supporters? do any other candidates anywhere support him?? It's David Henry vs Blears vs Lib Dems. No question.

I guess Richard thinks sitting in meetings and not saying anything, and peeping through brothel windows with his imaginary friends, amounts to a "track record in politics".

Saw his blog where he threatens to go round and slap "celebrity muppets" who stand as PPC's, priceless. Can we not nominate , erm, well basically anybody , Frank Evans?, Steve Foster?, or just some bloke from the vault. What a pudding.

He'll never challenge Carvath to last spot! On anther but related note of the all time classic comedy lines has to have been Carvaths dismissal of the story that Chris Eccleston's might be a possible candidate, Carvaths line is........... "I think this is a load of rubbish, Eccleston's track record in politics is Zero." ......pot calling kettle come in kettle anyone . RB

Is it Travis Bickle from Taxi Driver?. If so we can really look forward to see the streets being cleaned up. Best of luck.
